  • Wet snow

    • Above 1,800 m

Avalanche Activity

Moist avalanches and wet avalanches are the main danger.

Above approximately 1800 m small and, in isolated cases, medium-sized wet slab avalanches are possible. They can also release the wet snowpack. The avalanche prone locations for wet avalanches are to be found especially at the base of rock walls and on very steep grassy slopes. In the late morning the likelihood of avalanches being released will increase gradually.

Snowpack Structure

The snowpack remains in most cases subject to considerable local variations. Below approximately 1800 m only a little snow is lying. The snowpack will be well bonded in particular on shady slopes. On sunny slopes the snowpack is moister. In gullies and bowls a lot of snow is lying. As a consequence of highly fluctuating temperatures the snowpack will consolidate. The weather conditions as the day progresses will give rise to increasing softening of the snowpack.
