The General Avalanche Hazard at Upper elevations is MODERATE. Recent snowfall and winds created soft slabs to eighteen inches in depth on steep, lee slopes near higher ridgecrests. Yesterday skiers triggered (some were caught and carried) a number of slides on primarily northeast aspects. Similar danger continues today. The Hazard for wet, loose slides will rise rapidly to MODERATE at Upper and Mid elevations if the sun gets a chance to warm the snow ahead of cloud development.

Periods of snow, locally heavy at times, above 7500 feet with rain below are forecasted for the region tonight through Wednesday night. Ridgetop winds will be south to southwesterly at twenty m.p.h. with higher gusts. Lows Tuesday night will be in the low twenties and highs Wednesday around thirty. AVALANCHE HAZARD FORECAST FOR THE TETON, TOGWOTEE PASS, AND SOUTHWEST TRAILS AREAS:The General Avalanche Hazard tomorrow is expected to be MODERATE at the High elevations, and LOW below 9,000 feet. Pockets of soft slabs up to one foot in depth remain and could be triggered in steep, wind loaded starting zones near ridgecrests in the Teton area. In the Togwotee Pass and Southwest Trails/Greys River areas the hazard will be LOW.
