A generally favourable avalanche situation will prevail.

The wind slabs of the last few days are in some cases still prone to triggering. They are mostly small. The fresh and somewhat older wind slabs are to be evaluated with care and prudence.

Snowpack The fresh snow of recent days has been transported by strong winds from different directions. Over a wide area the snow drift accumulations are lying on a rather favourable old snowpack. Before the recent snowfall, the snowpack had been influenced in many places by the wind, and in east to south to west facing aspects by the sun as well. Only on north facing slopes protected from the wind was the surface of the old snowpack sometimes still faceted and loosely bonded and therefore less favourable. Here in particular, the snow drift accumulations are prone to triggering. In southern Valais and in Grisons, on north facing slopes over a wide area the entire old snowpack was also faceted and loosely bonded. Here in isolated cases, avalanches can still be triggered in the weak old snowpack. For more than a week, however, no such avalanche releases have been reported. Despite the recent snowfalls, the snow depths remain well below average throughout the Swiss Alps. On the flat sites occupied by the measuring stations at high altitudes, the values are only around half those usually recorded. Otherwise it will be dry but frequently cloudy. On Friday it is expected to be quite sunny in Valais and the south, otherwise frequently cloudy with the possibility of showers. The wind will be mostly light to moderate from easterly directions. Thursday will be mild with a zero degree level around 1800 m; on Friday the temperature will decrease appreciably again. The danger of dry avalanches will continue to decrease.
