In sintesi

Generally stable avalanche conditions persist. Snow surfaces continue to change. You may find unfavorable surfaces and small and isolated instabilities in challenging terrain.

Avalanche Discussion

We have not measured any new snow in the forecast area in over two weeks. Avalanche hazard remains low on a regional scale, but the snow continues to change.

Mostly cloudy skies and warm temperatures yesterday led to wet, sticky snow in many areas. Skies cleared overnight, and temperatures dropped.

Expect continued variable surface conditions throughout the range today. Windboard, buff, and breakable panels are separated by isolated ribbons of softer snow in the alpine. Melt-freeze crusts are becoming more prevalent at all elevations, and softer protected "facet pow" may have changed with yesterday's greenhouse effect. Small, loose wet instabilities should be less reactive today than yesterday.

Lower elevation and solar approaches are becoming worse for the wear, and you may have to consider open creek crossings when making your plan for the day.

It looks like another nice day to get out in the Range of Light before blustery northeast winds and colder temperatures make things less comfortable tomorrow. If you're planning to get out today, check out our observations page for current conditions. The stability, coverage, and weather are good for alpine adventures, but anticipate variable and challenging surface conditions, and consider bringing specialized equipment like ski/boot crampons and ice axes.
