In sintesi

The surface of the snowpack has frozen to form a strong crust only at high altitudes and will soften during the day. Faceted weak layers exist in the bottom section of the snowpack on steep shady slopes.

Snowpack Structure

The surface of the snowpack will soften during the day. Steep shady slopes above approximately 2800 m: Faceted weak layers exist in the bottom section of the old snowpack. Below approximately 2100 m from a snow sport perspective, in most cases insufficient snow is lying.

Avalanche Activity

The surface of the snowpack has frozen to form a strong crust only at high altitudes and will soften during the day. Faceted weak layers exist in the bottom section of the snowpack on steep shady slopes.

The avalanche prone locations for dry avalanches are to be found on steep shady slopes above approximately 2800 m. As a consequence of warming during the day and the solar radiation, the likelihood of wet avalanches being released will increase in particular on steep shady slopes below approximately 2800 m. Medium-sized avalanches are possible.
