Individual avalanche prone locations for dry avalanches are to be found in particular on very steep north facing slopes above approximately 2600 m. Apart from the danger of being buried, restraint should be exercised in particular in view of the danger of avalanches sweeping people along and giving rise to falls. As a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation wet snow slides are possible. This applies in particular on very steep north facing slopes.

Nocturnal skies in the northeastern regions will be predominantly clear, in those regions the snowpack surface will form a crust capable of bearing loads. In the remaining regions of Switzerland the longwave outgoing radiation will be reduced and only a thin crust will be able to form. As a result of daytime warming, the crust will soften and thaw and the danger of wet-snow avalanches will increase somewhat. South-facing slopes are thoroughly wet up into high alpine regions; west-facing and east-facing slopes are wet below approximately 3000 m; north-facing slopes below approximately 2400 m. Isolated danger zones for dry-snow avalanches are to be found on very steep north-facing slopes above approximately 2600 m more than anywhere else.

The nighttime skies were predominantly clear. During the daytime hours skies were overcast in the southern regions, in the other regions of Switzerland it was quite sunny. During the afternoon, some convective cloud build-up was registered. Fresh snow: - Temperature: At midday at 2000m, between +6 °C in the northwestern regions and +1 °C in the southeastern regions. Wind: Winds were light, blowing intermittently at moderate strength, from northerly directions. Nighttime skies on Wednesday will be only partly clear. During the daytime hours on Thursday skies will be variably cloudy in the Valais and in the southern regions and a small amount of precipitation cannot be ruled out from place to place. In the northern and the eastern regions it will be rather sunny, in spite of some cloudbanks. Heavy clouds will intermittently move in and over the Main Alpine Ridge from the south. Fresh snow: - Temperature: At midday at 2000 m, between +5 °C in the northern regions and +1 °C in the southern regions. Wind: Winds will be predominantly light, blowing from easterly directions.

Friday: On Friday in the northern regions it will be intermittently sunny; in the southern regions skies will be overcast. On the Main Alpine Ridge and southwards therefrom, isolated showers are possible. The avalanche situation is quite favourable in the early morning hours, in spite of only partially clear nocturnal skies. As a consequence of daytime warming and solar radiation the danger of wet-snow avalanches tends to increase somewhat on the northern flank of the Alps during the course of the day. Isolated danger zones for dry-snow avalanches are to be found on very steep north-facing slopes above approximately 2600 m more than anywhere else. Saturday: On Saturday it will be only partly sunny as a result of widespread cloudbanks. In the southern regions and also in the western regions, intermittent precipitation is anticipated. In the western and central sectors of the Main Alpine Ridge, 10 to 20 cm of fresh snow is expected above 2500 m. The winds will be blowing intermittently at strong velocity from southerly directions. The danger of dry-snow avalanches will increase in the areas where there is precipitation during the course of the day. The danger of wet-snow avalanches is not expected to change significantly.
