Avalanche Summary

A large trigger like a falling cornice, or deeply-trenching snowmobile might trigger an avalanche that breaks on buried crusts two to four feet deep. Avoid travel on steep slopes below large overhanging cornices. Northerly-facing terrain that lacks buried crusts offers safer options.

Over the next several days, recently fallen snow will become wet on east, south, and west-facing slopes. Higher elevation slopes hold more recently fallen snow, so any loose avalanches will entrain more wet snow above buried crusts. Consider the terrain below you where a small avalanche could have big consequences.
