Tetons
Pericolo valanghe
In sintesi
At the mid and upper elevations, some areas of instability persist where buried surface hoar rests on sun crusts, rime crusts or windpack. Backcountry travelers venturing onto steep, wind loaded slopes could trigger soft slabs up to two feet deep. Evaluate the snowpack carefully and avoid terrain where these combinations of surface hoar and sliding surfaces exist. At the lower elevation the snowpack is mostly stable and avalanches are unlikely.
Avalanche Discussion
Expect light snowfall to continue tonight before tapering off by Monday morning. Overnight lows in the mountains will be near zero before rising into the mid teens during the day. Ridgetop winds will veer to northwest and decrease to 15 to 20 miles per hour. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be MODERATE on Monday. Skiers and riders could trigger wind slabs up to two feet deep in the Teton and Southwest Trails areas. These slides will be more likely to fail on slopes that developed good sliding surfaces below the recently formed wind slabs. Evaluate the snowpack carefully and avoid areas where this combination exists. Conditions are similar in the Togwotee pass area but with slab depths to eighteen inches.
