In sintesi

The General Avalanche Hazard is MODERATE. The General Avalanche Hazard is MODERATE. Warm overnight temperatures will allow the chance of wet, loose sloughs to rapidly increase this morning. Look for signs of significant warming, which include a wet snow surface and growing snowballs as these will indicate the time to avoid steep slopes. Some potential remains for large triggers such as snow machines to initiate deep hard slabs on very steep, wind loaded avalanche paths that have buried layers of weak faceted snow. Stay out of small ravines and other terrain traps today.

Avalanche Discussion

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )A few rain and snow showers are expected to develop in the Northwest overnight. 10,000 foot lows by Tuesday morning will be in the mid twenties. Scattered showers with a freezing line around 8000 feet are expected through the day Tuesday but little accumulation is expected. Winds will be westerly at 25 miles per hour at ridge crests. The General Avalanche Hazard in the Teton Range is expected to be LOW on Tuesday morning at all elevations and may increase depending on freezing level and rain received. The General Avalanche Hazard in the Continental Divide/Togwotee Pass area is expected to remain MODERATE on Monday. There, the primary concern is lingering, deep-slab instabilities. While the chance of triggering a deep, hard slab is unlikely, the consequences are severe. These slabs will become more susceptible to failure along with the possibility of wet, loose sloughs as the day warms. The General Avalanche Hazard in the Southwest Trails/Greys River area is also expected to remain MODERATE. In addition to similar concerns that exist in the Togwotee Pass area, recently developed soft slabs up to a foot in depth could be human triggered in wind-loaded starting zones. The slabs, along with wet, loose sloughs, will become less stable as the day warms.
