The General Avalanche Hazard is MODERATE at Upper elevations where pockets of slab to 12 inches in depth could be triggered in steep, wind loaded terrain. At Mid and Low elevations the hazard is LOW but be aware of any solar warming that could cause wet, loose slide activity.

Avalanche Discussion

An upper level disturbance will move over the region Tuesday night bringing light snow. The system will depart the area Wednesday as an upper ridge builds in, bringing drier and warmer conditions. Daytime highs Wednesday will be in the twenties but sunny areas will see rapid warming of the snow surface. Ridgetop winds from the southwest to west will blow at fifteen miles per hour.AVALANCHE HAZARD FORECAST FOR THE TETON, TOGWOTEE PASS, AND SOUTHWEST TRAILS AREAS:The General Avalanche Hazard tomorrow morning is expected to be MODERATE at Upper elevations where isolated pockets of soft slabs to twelve inches in depth from recent snows lurk in lee, shaded aspects. At Mid and lower elevations the hazard will begin at LOW then increase rapidly as sunshine warms the snow. Backcountry users are advised to consult area specific forecasts issued every morning as new information may become available and unexpected weather can change conditions.
