The General Avalanche Hazard is LOW today at all elevations as below freezing overnight temperatures have frozen the snow surface. Isolated areas of wet slide activity are possible this afternoon as temperatures warm, but increasing clouds and wind should limit the softening of the snow surface.

The latest storm system should start to impact the Western mountains late tonight and into Sunday morning. By Sunday evening, 3 to 6 inches of snow can be expected, along with ridge top winds averaging in the high 20s, starting out of the South, then veering to the West. Mountain temperatures should drop through the night into the teens, before rebounding to near freezing tomorrow. Valley lows should drop into the 20s, and then rise to near 40 during the heat of the day, where precipitation could be in the form of rain, or rain/snow mix. AVALANCHE HAZARD FORECAST FOR THE TETON, TOGWOTEE PASS, AND SOUTHWEST TRAILS AREAS:The general avalanche hazard for tomorrow is expected to be LOW at all elevations in the morning, rising to MODERATE in the afternoon. Cool overnight temperatures will complete a melt freeze cycle, producing mostly stable conditions in the early hours. In the afternoon, three scenarios are possible. First, the forecasted storm produces cloud cover sufficient to hold back the solar effect, resulting in stable conditions throughout the day. However if rain is experienced at the lower elevations, the possibility of wet loose, and wet slabs materializes. Finally, if mostly clear skies prevail, wet loose slides could be seen on sunlit aspects from the valley into the upper elevations.
