The general avalanche hazard at the mid and upper elevations is Moderate where instabilities persist in some areas. Although most regularly skied or ridden slopes show signs of stability, human triggered avalanche events are possible on steep avalanche terrain that sees infrequent use, particularly on slopes with a Northerly component. These slab avalanches could be large and carry severe consequences as they may vary in depth from new surface slabs to three feet in depth or potentially deeper slabs that pull out deeper, older weak instabilities. Several slides have been reported the last few days with yesterdays events including a large remotely triggered slide to the ground at the high elevations in the Snake River Range and a large slab with a 6' crown being triggered by a small explosive on the North Ridge, a closed area at the Jackson Hole Mtn Resort. Avalanches at low elevations are not expected today, however if significant sunlight and increasing temperatures soften the snow surface, wet slide activity may become possible this afternoon.
