The few slopes where you might be able to trigger a small avalanche are on north and northeast-facing slopes above 12,000 feet, where you find firm, wind-drifted snow. Even if you trigger an avalanche, it will be very small and relatively harmless. Be careful if you find one of these wind drifts above a cliff or other terrain trap, where even a small avalanche could knock you over and drag you into dangerous terrain underneath you.
