Avalanche Activity

Caution urged towards small-sized snowdrifts

On north-facing slopes above the treeline, older and smaller snowdrift accumulations require attentiveness. Isolated danger zones for small triggerings (slides) occur in extremely steep terrain. These are often blanketed by snowfall, making them difficult to recognize. On south-facing slopes, some gliding snow activity has been observed. On sunny slopes, small loosely-packed snow avalanches can trigger in steep rocky terrain. Below the treerline, there is no striking avalanche problem evident.

Snowpack Structure

During nights of clear skies the snowpack surface on shady slopes has metamorphosed expansively. On steep sunny slopes the snow has become moist and forms a thin melt-freeze crust during the night, which then softens the next day.

Weather Forecast

Another round of clear and pleasant mountain weather with radiant sunshine from early until late. Temperatures will rise, winds will be irrelevant. At 2000m: -2 to +2 degrees. Light winds.

Tendency

Avalanche danger levels are expected to gradually recede.
