In sintesi

The wind slabs represent the main danger. In some localities increase in danger of moist avalanches as a consequence of warming.

Snowpack Structure

The sometimes strong wind has transported the fresh and old snow significantly. In some cases the wind slabs have bonded poorly with the old snowpack. Over a wide area various wind slab layers are lying on a hard crust. Weak layers exist in the old snowpack. At higher altitudes snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind. In all regions as well as in all altitude zones only a small amount of snow is lying for the time of year.

Tendency

The weather conditions will foster a gradual strengthening of the snow drift accumulations.

Avalanche Activity

The wind slabs represent the main danger. In some localities increase in danger of moist avalanches as a consequence of warming.

The wind slabs can be released in some cases above approximately 2300 m. They are to be avoided in particular in terrain where there is a danger of falling, caution is to be exercised at transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack. In particular along the border with France the avalanche prone locations are a little more prevalent. As a consequence of warming, the likelihood of dry and moist avalanches being released will increase a little on rocky sunny slopes. These can in isolated cases be triggered in the old snowpack and reach quite a large size.
