Avalanche Activity

As a consequence of warming and solar radiation a considerable danger of dry and wet avalanches will persist in some regions.

As a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation more medium-sized to large moist and wet avalanches are possible. New snow and wind slabs can be released and reach medium size, especially in high Alpine regions. The current avalanche situation calls for caution.

Snowpack Structure

60 to 80 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, fell in the last three days above approximately 2200 m. Up to 2000 m rain has fallen. The surface of the snowpack will freeze to form a strong crust, after a clear night especially at low and intermediate altitudes. The sometimes large wind slabs of the last few days are bonding only slowly with the old snowpack. In addition the danger of dry and wet avalanches will increase as the day progresses.
