Avalanche Activity

The sometimes strong wind has transported only a little snow.

Thus far the wind has been moderate to strong in the vicinity of peaks over a wide area. In the last few days the previously small wind slabs have increased in size moderately. The fresh wind slabs are to be found in particular adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls and generally at high altitudes. The avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular in west to north to southeast facing aspects above approximately 2200 m and at transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack.

Snowpack Structure

The snowpack will be generally subject to considerable local variations. In some cases the various wind slabs have bonded poorly with each other and the old snowpack. Hard wind slabs can be released by large loads at their margins in particular.
