TOR for 7/12 Areas of unstable windslab, steep sheltered SE thru S to W aspects above 600m. Old snow will be firm. Av Haz Moderate.

Forecast Snow Stability: Accumulations of unstable windslab will develop throughout the forecast period, progressively becoming more widespread as snow is redistributed in very strong winds. Most affected will be steep wind sheltered terrain, South-East through South to West aspects and generally above 600 metres. Elsewhere, areas of old snow will remain firm and wind exposed terrain will be scoured. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Heavy snow overnight and through the morning, generally above 600 metres, will turn to wintry showers in the afternoon. Widely 10 to 15 cms. expected over the forecast period. Gale to Severe Gale force winds, South-Easterly initially, backing North overnight. The freezing level will rise from around 500 metres overnight to 700 metres by daybreak. Observed Weather Influences: Largely a bright and dry day, but with thickening cloud and the odd spot of rain and summit snow later. Fresh to strong West wind backing Southerly through the afternoon. Freezing level around 750 metres. ObservedSnowStability: There is a dusting of fresh snow on all aspects above 700 metres overlying areas of firm old snow. Stability is good throughout. The avalanche hazard is Low.
