Avalanche Activity

Wet and gliding snow represent the main danger.

From late morning the likelihood of wet avalanches being released will increase quickly. The avalanche prone locations are to be found on very steep shady slopes below approximately 2600 m and on very steep sunny slopes in all altitude zones. As the penetration by moisture increases individual natural wet avalanches are possible as the day progresses, in particular on very steep west, north and east facing slopes. Avalanches can release the saturated snowpack and reach medium size. Gliding avalanches can also occur at any time. The avalanche prone locations for gliding avalanches are to be found in particular on very steep grassy slopes below approximately 2600 m.

Snowpack Structure

Outgoing longwave radiation during the night was reduced at times. The surface of the snowpack is frozen, but not to a significant depth will already soften in the late morning. The spring-like weather conditions as the day progresses will give rise to increasing and thorough wetting of the snowpack in all aspects.

Tendency

Wet snow represents the main danger.
