Avalanche Activity

Fresh wind slabs represent the main danger.

As a consequence of warming and solar radiation, the natural activity of small and medium loose snow avalanches will only slowly increase. Above approximately 1900 m and in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain dry slab avalanches are possible. They can be released by small loads. Avalanches can in isolated cases be released in near-surface layers of the snowpack reach medium size in particular on very steep shady slopes. Some small and, in isolated cases, medium-sized slab avalanches are possible as a consequence of the new snow.

Snowpack Structure

In particular in the west wind and new snow above approximately 1900 m. The fresh wind slabs have formed in particular adjacent to ridgelines on southwest, west and northwest facing slopes and generally at elevated altitudes. Avalanche prone weak layers exist in the top section of the old snowpack in particular on very steep shady slopes. Dunes on the snow surface indicate the danger.

Tendency

Unbonded new snow above approximately 1600 m.
