In sintesi

The wind slabs must be evaluated with care and prudence in all aspects above approximately 1600 m.

Problemi valanghivi

  • Wind slab

    • Above 1,600 m

Avalanche Activity

The wind slabs must be evaluated with care and prudence in all aspects above approximately 1600 m.

The fresh snow of last week and the wind slabs to be found above all adjacent to risgelines and in gullies and bowls can be released by a single winter sport participant in some cases. In particular on wind-loaded slopes small and medium-sized avalanches are possible.

Snowpack Structure

In some cases the wind slabs have bonded poorly with the old snowpack. The wind slabs are clearly recognisable to the trained eye. As a consequence of highly fluctuating temperatures and rain up to approximately 1900 m a crust formed on the surface on Monday. In many places there is a danger of falling on the icy crust. Stability tests and field observations show that the stability of the snowpack varies greatly within a small area.

Tendency

Over a wide area some new snow at low altitude. As a consequence of new snow and wind the avalanche prone locations will become more prevalent towards the evening.
