GC23/12 Cold strong E\'ly generally snowpack stable but localised windslab may form SW-N aspects 900m+ Old snow icy hazard Moderate.

Forecast Snow Stability: General stability of much of the snowpack will remain good but strengthening Easterly winds through the day will form areas of unstable windslab in sheltered areas mainly above 900 metres. Summit gully exits and steep scarp slopes with South-West to Northerly aspect will be most affected. The older snowpack will be firm and icy. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Forecast Weather Influences: There will be a return to colder conditions with strengthening Easterly winds. The freezing level will lower to around 600 metres. It will remain dry. Observed Weather Influences: It has been mainly dry with early cloud clearing through the day. Winds have been very light generally Northerly. The freezing level has lowered to around 900 metres. ObservedSnowStability: Much of the snowpack above 900 metres has developed a breakable surface crust lying on soft snow. Stability is generally good on all but the steepest slopes where isolated instabilities exist. Areas most affected are gully exits and coire rims where deeper accumulations have formed. Exposed old snow deposits are firm and icy. The avalanche hazard is Low.
