Avalanche Activity

Forecast Snow Stability: A period of poor stability overnight after the onset of mild, damp weather. Most affected areas will be very steep North-East to South-East aspects above 950m. All cornices expected to weaken at this time. Much better stability in all locations from the early hours onwards. Some thin new windslab is possible on steep North-East to East aspects above 950m by then end of the day. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Mild and damp at all elevations overnight. Much cooler from the earlier hours onwards and dry for a time. Light snow showers from midday onwards. Observed Weather Influences: Moderate to strong North-West winds overnight eased during daylight hours and became South-Westerly. Cold but less so from dawn onwards. A trace of light snow late in the period, otherwise dry. ObservedSnowStability: Poor stability overnight with avalanche activity on North- East to South-East aspects. Poorly bonded snow persists here mainly on very steep locations above 950m. New weak cornices overhang some of these places. Noticeably better stability in all snow below 850m. The avalanche hazard is Considerable.
