LO for 07.02. Wet snow instabilities on N to E to S aspects above 900m. Here avalanches are likely. Considerable avalanche hazard.

Forecast Snow Stability: Overnight, areas of poorly bonded windslab will continue to build on North through East to South-East aspects above 900m. During the day, a rapid rise in temperature is expected, accompanied with rainfall. On these same aspects above 900m, wet snow avalanches are likely and cornices will be prone to collapse. The avalanche hazard will be Considerable.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Strong to Gale Force West-North-West summit winds easing overnight and backing South then South-West during the day, increasing to severe gale force by late afternoon. Snow showers this evening, then dry overnight before rain at all levels by morning. The freezing level is expected to rise above the summits by 9am. Observed Weather Influences: Strong West-South-West winds. Frequent snow showers. Freezing level around 200m. ObservedSnowStability: Areas of poorly bonded windslab are present on North through East to South-East aspects above 900m. South aspects are also affected due to crossloading. Fragile cornices were noted on these aspects. Between 600 and 900 metres, localised accumulations of windslab are present on the same aspects. Windscoured slopes were frozen and stable. Multiple lines of recent avalanche debris present in Coire na Ciste. The avalanche hazard is Considerable.
