Avalanche Activity

During the course of the night as a consequence of new snow and wind there will be an increase in the avalanche danger to level 2 (moderate).

In some regions 5 to 20 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, has fallen since Friday above approximately 1800 m. The fresh snow and isolated mostly small wind slabs must be evaluated with care and prudence especially on very steep shady slopes, in particular adjacent to ridgelines. These are to be evaluated with care and prudence in terrain where there is a danger of falling. As the snowfall becomes more intense dry avalanches are possible towards the evening, but they will be mostly small, especially on extremely steep slopes in high Alpine regions, and in steep rocky terrain. Weak layers in the old snowpack can be released by large additional loads, especially on very steep north and east facing slopes in particular between approximately 2400 and 2700 m in little used terrain. The avalanche prone locations are very rare and are barely recognisable, even to the trained eye.

Snowpack Structure

In all regions in all altitude zones only a small amount of snow is lying for the time of year. In particular south, southeast and southwest facing slopes below approximately 2300 m: From a snow sport perspective, insufficient snow is lying. In some regions 5 to 20 cm of snow, but less in some localities, will fall until Monday above approximately 1000 m. The old snowpack will be well bonded on steep sunny slopes. Faceted weak layers exist in the snowpack on north, northeast and northwest facing slopes.

Tendency

Wind and new snow: In some localities increase in avalanche danger.
