Avalanches are unlikely on Sunday because we have so little snow. If you are out skiing or climbing in the mountains the greater objective hazards are those related to shallow snow: submerged obstacles, falling into rocks, or maybe even rocks falling on you in steeper terrain.
Avalanche Discussion
I have to say that it is impressive how little snow we have right now! Skiing is possible but inevitably involves a long walk in sneakers to get to. Sunday will usher in some cooler temperatures at least, and I'm optimistic that we'll start picking up some snow next week.
Our COAC forecastors and observers are getting skis tuned, hiking around in the high country, and working hard on all of the behind the scenes logistics that help generate the avalanche forecast. Avalanche forecasts will continue to be issued for Friday through Monday. Additionally, as snow starts falling don't forget to check our observations tab.
