In sintesi

Avalanche conditions continue to be dangerous. Areas of instability persist at the mid and upper elevations that can produce dangerous deep slab avalanches. These slabs are highly unpredictable, destructive and can be triggered by the weight of a single person. In these conditions a lack of avalanche activity is not a reliable indicator of the potential hazard. The only reasonable way to manage this hazard is to leave a wide range of safety and stick to slopes that are not an issue. Choose low angle, simple terrain that is not exposed to steep overhanging slopes. Avalanches are unlikely at the lower elevations.

    At the mid and upper elevations the potential for humans to trigger slab avalanches with depths to five feet poses a serious threat to backcountry users. If triggered these dangerous slabs will fail on a deeply buried layer of faceted snow that persist on all aspects. These slabs could be triggered by the weight of a single person especially in steep avalanche paths where areas of deep and shallow snow exist together. Previous tracks are not an indication of stability. Deep persistent slab avalanches are the most difficult avalanche problem to assess, predict and manage. They can remain unstable for weeks or months.

Periods of light snow or flurries are possible overnight with mostly clear conditions expected on Thursday. Mountain temperatures should be in the single digits during the day. Northwest winds during the day will be light. The general avalanche hazard will remain Considerable. Although the likelihood of triggering has diminished, the possibility of triggering deep slab avalanches continues upon a layer that is widely distributed on all aspects above 7500 feet. If triggered these will be dangerous large hard slabs. Deep persistent slab avalanches are the most difficult avalanche problem to assess, predict and manage. They can remain unstable for weeks or months.
