You can trigger an avalanche where recently drifted storm snow rests on steep slopes at all elevations. Northeast, east, and southeast-facing slopes at upper elevations are the most dangerous. Look for and avoid steep drifted slopes below ridges, in gullies, or behind convex rollovers. Avoid steep slopes if you see cracks in front of you in the snow or hear audible collapses.
Also, on Saturday, watch for small wet avalanches at lower elevations. If you suddenly feel cold, dry snow starting to get wet, and you see rollerballing, this is a sign of an increasing threat of wet avalanches.
