The incoming storm set to hit the region will not impact Togwotee Pass as much as the other forecast zones. However, by Monday, there will be a significant load of new snow stressing an already thin and weak snowpack. As you travel today, keep track of storm totals and if by this evening there are several inches of new snow, remember that slopes getting wind-loaded will be more sensitive. Look for signs of instability, like shooting cracks and stiff wind drifts. Consider the consequences of getting caught and remember that with the thin snowpack, rocks and logs are hidden just below the surface.
Please send us your observations and let us know how the storm is changing conditions.
