Avalanche Activity

As a consequence of new snow and wind the prevalence and size of the avalanche prone locations will increase as the day progresses.

Above approximately 1500 m snow will fall on Thursday. The wind will be moderate at times. As a consequence of new snow and a light to moderate wind from westerly directions, mostly small wind slabs will form from late morning. The fresh snow as well as the wind slabs represent the main danger. The avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular on very steep slopes and in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain. They are barely recognisable because of the poor visibility.

Snowpack Structure

15 to 30 cm of snow will fall above approximately 2000 m. The fresh snow as well as the mostly small wind slabs will be deposited on a favourable old snowpack in all aspects. At low and intermediate altitudes only a little snow is lying.

Tendency

The danger of natural avalanches will decrease gradually.
