CM for 19/02/23 Wet snow instability NW through N to SE aspects above 850m. Moderate Hazard.

Forecast Snow Stability: Some early redistribution of snow expected onto steep North through East to South-East aspects above 850m. Wet snow instability expected here as the freezing level rises above summits and rainfall becomes established at all levels. Limited wet snow instability also possible on selected North-West aspects above the same altitude. Better stability much later. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Cold overnight then much milder during daylight hours. A few brief light overnight snow showers then rain from dawn onwards. Light North-North-Easterly winds becoming very strong South Westerly later. Observed Weather Influences: Overnight snowfall on very light generally East-South Easterly winds. Cold but briefly milder during a mid morning period of milky sunshine. ObservedSnowStability: A uniform blanket of fresh soft snow 8 to 10 cm deep above 650m with little or no drifting. A few single point releases noted above 950m on steep sun exposed East to South-East aspects later in the morning. Good stability in most other places. The avalanche hazard is Moderate.
