The fresh snow as well as the mostly small wind slabs can be released by a single winter sport participant above approximately 2700 m. The avalanche prone locations are to be found in steep terrain at high altitudes and in high Alpine regions and at transitions into gullies and bowls. Along the border with France the avalanche prone locations are more prevalent. These places are sometimes covered with new snow and are difficult to recognise. As a consequence of warming small and medium-sized moist and wet avalanches are possible, in particular on rocky sunny slopes below approximately 2900 m.

Adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas as well as in high Alpine regions snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind. High altitudes: Towards its surface, the snowpack is dry; its surface consists of loosely bonded snow. Individual weak layers exist in the bottom section of the snowpack in shady places that are protected from the wind, in particular at high altitude. The surface of the snowpack has frozen to form a strong crust and will soften during the day.

The weather conditions will bring about a gradual weakening of the near-surface layers in the afternoon.
