In sintesi

Up to a foot of new snow, driven by strong southwest winds at 20 to 35 miles per hour with gusts to 73, has formed new soft slabs on leeward slopes at the mid and upper elevations. These slabs, up to two feet deep, could be easily triggered by backcountry travelers in steep, wind-loaded terrain. Continued strong winds and snowfall will increase the depth and extent of these slabs as the day progresses. Loose snow sluffing will also be possible in less wind-affected terrain. Use conservative decision making, careful route finding, and good travel habits.

Avalanche Discussion

Scattered snow showers are expected to dissipate by Monday morning, followed by partly to mostly cloudy skies. Overnight lows in the mountains will drop to near 10 before rising to near 20 on Monday. Ridgetop winds will veer to the northwest at 15 to 25 miles per hour. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be Moderate above 8,500 feet on Monday and Low below 8,500 feet. Backcountry travelers could trigger dense surface slabs, one to two feet deep in steep, wind-loaded avalanche terrain. On sun-affected aspects, any extended periods of sunshine will make these slabs more susceptible to failure along with the chance of loose snow sluffs, and shallow wet slides at the lower elevations.
