Soft surface slabs to eighteen inches in depth lie in avalanche terrain at the mid and high elevations. These slabs were sensitive yesterday and pockets of slab remain susceptible to human triggers today on steep wind loaded slopes. Avalanches are unlikely at low elevations today.

A brief period of high pressure is to result in a sunny day on Friday in Western Wyoming. Temperatures are to remain cold with morning temperatures at high elevations to be near zero degrees while valley temperatures drop significantly lower. In the afternoon temperatures at all elevations are to rise into the mid to upper teens.The general avalanche hazard is expected to be Moderate. Skiers and riders will have the potential to trigger soft surface slabs to eighteen inch depths in steep wind loaded terrain. At high elevations near cliffs or where the snowpack is shallow, the potential continues for large loads to trigger deeper hard slabs near the base of the snowpack. These deeper instabilities are most prevalent in the Togwotee Pass area and the Southwest Trails area.
