Above 8500 feet, riders and skiers could trigger dense slabs in steep avalanche terrain that was loaded by winds earlier in the week. Avalanches below 8500 feet are unlikely today.

Soft to dense slabs with depths to eighteen inches could be triggered in very steep terrain where wind loading has occurred.

Avalanche Discussion

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )Periodic snow showers that could be mixed with rain at low elevations are expected on Saturday as the low pressure trough pushes moisture through the area. Temperatures are to be similar with lows in the teens and highs in the upper twenties at the high elevations. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be Moderate in the western region of Wyoming. Above 8500 feet, pockets of soft to dense wind slabs with depths to eighteen inches could be triggered in very steep terrain. In the Togwotee Pass area additional hazard exists with a slight chance for large triggers to initiate large hard slab avalanches deep in the snowpack.
