The General Avalanche Hazard is LOW today. Overnight below freezing temperatures have provided a hard crust on the snow surface this morning. As temperatures rise today and this crust softens wet slides could be triggered in isolated areas, however increasing winds and clouds should limit the warming affect.

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )As the current high pressure system moves East of the area another storm system will enter the area with heavy snow and stronger Southwest winds(20-30mph) expected by midnight Saturday. Prior to the snow, temperatures are expected to reach the mid thirties at high elevations and into the forties in the valleys. Due to these warm temperatures the precipitation may begin as rain at the lower elevations. AVALANCHE HAZARD FORECAST FOR THE TETON, TOGWOTEE PASS, AND SOUTHWEST TRAILS AREAS:The general avalanche hazard is expected to be LOW Friday morning and increase to MODERATE in the afternoon as warming weakens the snowpack prior to the arrival of the next storm. As Friday nights lows may only reach the mid twenties this warming may occur quickly on Saturday. Backcountry users are advised to consult area specific forecasts issued every morning as new information may become available and unexpected weather can change conditions.
