Avalanche Summary

On Sunday, expect to encounter two flavors of small avalanche issues if you venture into steep, high-alpine slopes. Recent snow and strong southwest winds, most notably in parts of the Elk and San Juan Mountains, drifted snow onto the lee sides of ridgelines at upper elevations. If you notice cracking around your feet, you've probably found a wind-drifted slope, and you should assess steep terrain to determine the extent of the new snow drift. The second issue to look out for is moving off steep slopes later in the day, if you sink past your ankles into wet, unsupported snow.

Avalanches triggered would be small but dangerous in consequential terrain.

Researchers Ian McCammon and Sara Boilen are developing new tools for managing human factors for backcountry skiers and boarders. This survey asks about personal experiences with human factors and will take 7 - 8 minutes to fill out. Link is HERE. Thank you for your help!
