In sintesi

Large avalanche activity will be limited to terrain above 7,500 ft. where several inches of fresh snow may have created Wind Slab avalanche conditions on north and east facing slopes.  If you find yourself riding at higher elevations avoid these slopes until you've figured out how much new snow has blown onto them.  Cracking in the surface snow is a great indicator of a Wind Slab avalanche character.

    Despite drenching conditions at trailhead elevations, upper elevations were picking up snow.  The snow level likely climbed to 8000 ft. before dropping to treeline in the early afternoon.  This new snow was accompanied by Strong and Moderate wind from the southwest.  Observations of new snow up high are difficult to come by on days like this.  If you are venturing into alpine terrain on Monday, take time to observe how much new snow has blown around, as well as whether or not it has formed a cohesive Wind Slab.  I often try to find smaller or less steep slopes to make these observations safely.

Avalanche Discussion

Another WET Sunday!... doing a number on our snowpack.  I measured a snow height of 65 cm. around noon on Sunday.  Our latest pow (no longer pow) made up the top 25 cm.  Below that is a significant rain crust from last weekends deluge.  Last Friday and Saturday's snowfall made up only 10-15 cm. of snow below the crust.  The bottom 20 cm. are a variety of crusts and melt forms.
