Precipitation is slowing on Thursday, and cooling temperatures mean we could see a couple inches of snow at upper elevations. Remain aware of wet snow avalanche problems so continue to avoid steep terrain, and don't travel on slopes beneath large cornices or glide cracks. When in doubt, or if you see natural avalanche activity, avoid avalanche terrain.

    Cooler weather is arriving and the majority of the precipitation has passed. Avalanche activity is diminishing, but not every slope or rocky ledge has shed over the past week. There is still a chance that lingering avalanche activity could continue as water drains through the snowpack.

    Search for sagging cornices, glide cracks, or precariously perched blocks of snow to help identify areas where shedding avalanches may still occur. Avoid traveling beneath those locations. When in doubt, or if you see any other natural avalanche activity, avoid traveling beneath steep slopes.

If you make it to upper elevations, you will probably find a couple inches of new snow. New snow amounts aren't expected to pose much of an avalanche hazard, but keep an eye out for pockets of wind-drifted snow breaking over a firm crust. In the unlikely chance you trigger a small avalanche, you could be knocked off your feet and sent on a long ride.

Roughly 3-5 inches of rain has fallen around the West South zone since Friday afternoon. For the duration, temperatures have remained above freezing. This resulted in a significant wet avalanche cycle. NWAC forecasters and avalanche professionals documented slides up to size D3. Many of these slides are suspected to have failed or stepped down to deeper layers of concern, particularly the Solstice Crust. We expect the height of natural avalanche activity to have passed and the snowpack to be well-suited to absorb additional rain. However, this period of unpredictable wet avalanches won’t truly be over until temperatures drop and the surface starts to freeze. 

At most elevations, heavy wet snow, runneled surfaces, running water, exposed rocks/dirt, and avalanche debris now litter the landscape, possibly making for challenging travel conditions. At higher elevations you might start encountering harder surfaces.
