In sintesi

New snow overnight and wind have made triggering an avalanche up to 18 inches deep likely in steep terrain above 9,000’. While less likely, avalanches have the potential to break deeper in very steep and heavily wind loaded areas. Avalanches involving new snow are unlikely in the low elevations except for in isolated pockets of very steep terrain.

    The Tetons received 8-10 inches of low density (6-7%) snow overnight accompanied by light to moderate winds out of the northwest. New soft slabs up to 18 inches deep could be sensitive to the weight of a rider in very steep upper elevation terrain. However, movement in the new snow will likely be confined to loose snow sluffing in most steep terrain. Be on the lookout for signs of instability within the new snow including cracking and recent avalanche activity. If these signs are present, then it is a good idea to seek out gentler terrain.

    Snow King received 10 inches of new snow overnight. This is considerably more snow than the low elevations of the Tetons received last night. Be on the lookout for storm slabs if traveling in the backcountry near Snow King today.

    A strong southwest wind event within the last 48 hours formed hard slabs 1-2 feet deep in loaded upper elevation terrain. Slab depths could be as deep as 3 feet in heavily loaded areas along ridgelines and near the base of cliffs. The likelihood of triggering a large wind slab has decreased since yesterday, yet skiers and riders still have the potential to trigger a deeper avalanche in very steep, wind loaded terrain over 35 degrees. An additional 8-10 inches of low density snow fell overnight and will obscure evidence of these slabs and add volume to any deeper avalanche that is triggered. Carefully evaluate the recent snow for evidence of firm wind slabs underneath last night's snow. Giving very steep and wind loaded features a wide margin is the best way to manage this problem today.
