In sintesi

Expect a cooler, breezy and intermittently stormy day. Small loose wet avalanches may become possible in the new snowfall as it'll be resting over a wet, saturated snowpack. Stay abreast to changing conditions, and avoid areas of higher consequence if you notice signs of wet loose avalanches such as rollerballs.

    We could receive 3-5" of new snow by the end of the day, and it'll be accumulating over a wet, saturated snowpack. Even though Wednesday should be a cooler day, it's spring and any breaks of clouds could get snow rolling downhill on steep slopes quickly. Look for rollerballs and moist, sticky snow. Check to see how supportable the soon to be buried crust is, or is not. If you still sink deeply into wet snow, then you could also trigger deeper wet loose slides. In any case, consider avoiding steep areas with increased consequences such as terrain above cliffs, gullies, or complex terrain with large features overhead. 

    Remember to also consider the consequences of other types of wet avalanche problems. Cornices are sagging and may continue to fall as the snowpack is still refreezing. Glide cracks have been observed in the Stevens Pass Mountain Resort Backcountry and may continue to open or even fail unexpectedly.

Avalanche Discussion

Many of us that enjoy snow are looking forward to a cooler and more wintry weather pattern beginning on Wednesday. The shed cycle continued on Tuesday, and observers on the Rock Mountain traverse reported hearing and seeing a few large (D2) natural wet loose avalanches from steep, rocky SE facing terrain above Crescent lake. Stevens Pass Ski Patrol reported another day of being able to trigger small wet loose avalanches. Glide cracks have opened on Lichtenberg and on Big Chief Ridge. These may continue to open up and could fail without warning. Cooler temperatures may begin to refreeze the upper snowpack on Wednesday, but with incoming snow i'd expect to find weak, wet snow and potentially still punchy or unsupportable conditions in many areas. 

The weather forecast highlights a Puget Sound Convergence Zone that may hit the Stevens Pass area during the daytime. If you find more than 4" of new snow, expect you could have more than Low danger. You could stumble into small windslabs in upper elevations by the end of the day as snowfall and winds continue to add up.
