Look out for triggerable slabs as snow accumulations reach or exceed the 8 to 12 inches that is forecast at higher elevations. Warming temperatures, some gusty winds and simply, denser new snow could lead to slab development. You’re most likely to encounter slabs in north facing terrain from about 8,000’ to 9,500’ and wind slabs on north-facing, wind loaded ridgetops. Slabs could grow to about a foot to eighteen inches thick. Look for shooting cracks off your ski tips and collapsing in wind sheltered terrain below treeline in areas where buried surface hoar might exist.
