Forecast Snow Stability: The snowpack will continue to consolidate becoming mainly stable throughout. There will be some lingering weakness within the snowpack on steep wind sheltered locations on North-West to North-East aspects above 1000 metres, especially around gully tops. The slow thaw will continue at lower elevations. The avalanche hazard will be Low.
Snowpack Structure
Forecast Weather Influences: Insignificant amounts of summit snowfall forecasted throughout the period. Very strong winds will be from the South before backing South-East by midday. Freezing level around 1200 metres lowering to 1000 metres in the morning. Observed Weather Influences: Light snow showers in the morning cleared to leave a mainly dry afternoon. Gale force winds eased through the day with the freezing level around 1100 metres at midday. ObservedSnowStability: The moderately bonded windslab above 1000 metres, found on North-West to North-East aspects in wind sheltered locations, continues to consolidate. The old snowpack has good stability throughout. Little snow remains below 800 metres. The avalanche hazard is Moderate.
