Avalanche Activity

Forecast Snow Stability: Poor stability on many steep North through East to South East aspects above 850m as very mild and damp conditions become established. All recently formed cornices over these locations will become weak and be prone to spontaneous collapse on to the slopes below. Avalanches likely. Better bonded snow on less steep ground and at lower altitudes. Good stability on all ridge crests and recently wind scoured slopes. The avalanche hazard will be Considerable.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Freezing level rising quickly to well above summits overnight then on to 3000m during the day. Light rainfall from the early hours to around midday. Observed Weather Influences: Snow showers overnight and throughout the first part off the day. Strong West later West North West winds. ObservedSnowStability: New weak, occasionally deep, windslab is present on many steep North through East to South East aspects above 850m. Weak cornices, some large, overhang many of these places. Recent avalanche activity on a steep East South East aspect at 850m. Better consolidated snow at lower altitudes and good stability on all wind exposed locations. The avalanche hazard is Considerable
