Avalanche Activity

Forecast Snow Stability: Wet snow instabilities will persist until the afternoon when the snowpack will start to refreeze. Steep North through East to South-East aspects above 800 metres will be most affected. Remaining cornices will be prone to collapse. Fresh windslab accumulations in the afternoon are not expected to be significant. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Very strong South-West winds veer to the North and ease in the afternoon. Drizzle in the evening with some heavier rain in the morning, turning to snow showers above around 600 metres in the afternoon. The freezing level will be above the summits for most of the period, dropping to 700 metres during the afternoon. Observed Weather Influences: It was a mild day with the freezing level above the summits. There was drizzle and fresh West-South-Westerly winds. ObservedSnowStability: After a period of poor stability overnight the snowpack was slowly consolidating. Wet snow instabilities remain present, mainly on steep North through East to South-East aspects above 800 metres. Elsewhere the snowpack is slowly thawing and stability is better. Remaining cornices are prone to collapse. The avalanche hazard is Moderate.
