Avalanche Activity

Dry slab avalanches are to be expected as a consequence of new snow and strong wind. Below approximately 2400 m the likelihood of moist and wet avalanches will increase during the day.

From the late morning as a consequence of warming there will be a gradual increase in the danger of moist and wet avalanches. This applies in particular at low and intermediate altitudes. Wind slabs can in many cases be released by a single winter sport participant. Dry slab avalanches are possible, even medium-sized ones. This applies especially on steep slopes adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls.

Snowpack Structure

The northwesterly wind has transported the new snow and, in some cases, old snow as well. In particular adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls sometimes avalanche prone wind slabs formed. The weather conditions as the day progresses will give rise to significant moistening of the snowpack in particular at low and intermediate altitudes.
