Tendency

After a sunny start, cloud cover will move in, the higher peaks of the Main Alpine Ridge will disappear in fog. Hardly any sunshine, only isolated rainfall or snowfall. Intensifying SW winds, temperatures rising. At 2000 m: -5 in the morning, +2 in the evening. No significant change in avalanche danger conditions is expected.

Avalanche Activity

Low avalanche danger

Avalanche danger is low. Isolated danger zones are found on north-facing slopes. Ridgeline older drifts can be triggered as small-to-medium avalanches by large additional loading.

Snowpack Structure

The snowpack was able to settle adequately. Due to solar radiation and the cold nighttime skies, a pronounced melt-freeze crust was able to form. Older snowdrifts are brittle in high altitude regions, often prone to triggering, esp on steep north-facing slopes. In these areas there are soft layers embedded inside the snowpack which are weak layers.

Weather Synopsis

On Tuesday, dense clouds, minor snowfall in the southern massifs. In the afternoon, a bit of sunshine, longer in the Northern Alps. At 2000 m: -4 degrees. Light to moderate SW winds, stronger on the Koralpe,
