Problemi valanghivi

  • Wind slab

    • Above 2,400 m

Snowpack Structure

Snowpack

Prone-to-triggering wind slabs developed at high altitudes on Thursday with westerly winds. In the regions exposed to heavier precipitation along the northern Alpine ridge, these are sometimes large. With the mild temperatures and the rain, the snowpack at intermediate altitudes was increasingly saturated this week, even on north-facing slopes to high altitudes.

Before the precipitation of the last ten days, there was a continuous old snowpack, especially above approximately 2800 m. This contains weak layers of faceted crystals, especially on north-facing slopes. There, avalanches can occasionally be released in the old snowpack close to the ground.

Weather Forecast

Weather forecast until Friday, 29.11.2024

Fresh snow

Above approximately 2000 m in the north a few centimetres, in the east of the Bise winds up to 10 cm

Temperature

in the middle of the day at 2000 m between +4 °C in the west and -1 in the Easter Sunday

Wind

  • moderate during the night to Friday from northwest to north, during the day from northeast

Weather Review

Weather forecast for Thursday, 28.11.2024

During the night to Thursday, precipitation set in in the north and intensified during the day. The snowfall level rose to 1800 to 2200 m in the west and 1600 to 1800 m in the north-east. It dropped again slightly in the afternoon. In the south, it was partly sunny with northerly winds.

Fresh snow

until Thursday afternoon, above approximately 2200 m:

  • Northern Alpine ridge from the east of the Bernese Alps to the Alpstein region: 20 to 40 cm
  • rest of northern Alpine ridge, northern Prättigau: 10 to 20 cm
  • elsewhere a few centimetres, dry in the south.

Temperature

at midday at 2000 m, between +1 °C in the north and +3 °C in the south.

Wind

  • in the north moderate to strong from southwest to west, turning to northwest as the day progresses
  • weak to moderate in the south, moderate from the northwest as the day progresses

Tendency

Trend until Sunday, 1 December 2024

At the weekend it will be sunny in the mountains and mild with a zero-degree level at 2800 to 3200 m. During the night to Saturday, the wind will initially be moderate to strong at high altitudes, otherwise weak to moderate from the east to northeast.

The danger of dry avalanches will decrease. On steep sunny slopes, gliding avalanches and moist snow slides during the day are possible.
