Consider persistent weak layers in high altitudes
The avalanche danger is moderate above 2.000 m. In steep areas or high altitudes snowdrift is partially prone to triggering and can be triggered by small additional loads. Avalanches can reach medium sizes and possibly slab through lower layers within the old snow. Due to warming and radiation wet loose-snow avalanches can occur spontaneously or triggered by individuals in steep areas. In steep slopes with smooth surfaces spontaneous gliding snow avalanches are possible. Avoid areas underneath gliding cracks.
The snow cover looses its strength on the surface due to warming and precipitation. During the night bonding is only in certain areas possible. Due to foehn, warmth and partial radiation increasing loss of strength of the snow cover. Only in altitudes above 2.200 m fresh snowdrift deposits are prone to triggering. In shady high slopes the are some areas with weak layers built up by faceted snow crystals within the old snow cover. In lower altitudes the snow base is moist towards the soil which makes gliding activities potentially possible. In general the snow cover is inhomogeneous, from medium altitude s downwards only little snow.
Sunday night the warm front clears and a low pressure system coming from Great Britain causes a strong southwesterly current. Dense clouds in southern and western regions. Sunny weather is possible in the northern alps. Southern accumulation of clouds and some rain. Vivid to strong southwesterly winds, stormy in southern and eastern regions. The temperatures will be around 5-7 degrees in 2.000. Southwards of Niedere Tauern around 0 degrees in 2.000 m.
On Tuesday a coldfront will come through and an Italian low pressure system will cause cooling and new snow predominantly in the southwest. Wet snow is decreasing and fresh snowdrift occurs. The avalanche danger will slightly increase.
