Avalanche Activity

Over a wide area new snow at intermediate altitudes.

Thursday: In the early morning a low avalanche danger will still be encountered. Apart from the danger of being buried, restraint should be exercised in particular in view of the danger of avalanches sweeping people along and giving rise to falls. In the afternoon as the precipitation becomes more intense there will be a gradual increase in the danger to level 2 (moderate). Extremely steep shady slopes and high altitudes: Weak layers in the old snowpack can be released especially by large additional loads. In particular steep terrain that is interspersed with rocks above approximately 1800 m: As a consequence of the new snow natural avalanches are possible towards the evening, in particular medium-sized ones.

Snowpack Structure

Over a wide area up to 5 cm of snow will fall on Wednesday above approximately 2000 m. The rain gave rise to moistening of the old snowpack at low and intermediate altitudes. 10 to 15 cm of snow will fall on Thursday above approximately 1500 m. 10 to 20 cm of snow will fall on Friday.

Tendency

As the snowfall becomes more intense the avalanche prone locations will become more prevalent on Friday.
